Chinese automaker JAC, in collaboration with tech giant Huawei, has unveiled the first model of their new brand Maextro – the fully electric sedan S800. Measuring nearly 5.5 meters in length, this vehicle surpasses almost everything currently seen on Chinese roads. It was officially revealed on November 26 at the Huawei Mate event.

Chinese Luxury Inspired by Europe

The S800 positions itself as a competitor to established brands like Maybach, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley. Its design borrows elements from European luxury icons: a two-tone body reminiscent of Maybach, wheels evoking Rolls-Royce, and a rear profile strikingly similar to the Porsche Panamera.

Dimensions That Impress

With a length of 5480 mm, width of 2000 mm, and height of 1536 mm, the Maextro S800 is comparable to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, though slightly smaller than the Rolls-Royce Ghost. The interior promises maximum comfort, featuring a four-seat configuration and a “starry sky” roof effect. A strong focus is placed on premium materials and cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence and Level 3 autonomous driving.

Advanced Technology

The Maextro S800 is built on the JAC X6 platform and integrates Huawei’s advanced technologies, including the Tuling Intelligent Chassis. It features a high-level autonomous driving system and a state-of-the-art infotainment system connected to Huawei’s ecosystem. A LIDAR sensor on the roof highlights its capability for advanced environment mapping and readiness for full autonomy.

Production and Future Plans

The car will be manufactured in JAC’s newly constructed factory, with an annual capacity of 200,000 units. The initial production target is 35,000 units per year, indicating the launch of additional models in the future—rumored to include an MPV slated for late 2025.

Competitive Pricing

Priced between 1 and 1.5 million yuan (approximately $137,800 to $206,700), the Maextro S800 is positioned against models like the Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7. Customers can already place a deposit of 20,000 yuan ($2,800).

Will It Challenge European Luxury in China?

The Maextro S800 promises a combination of Chinese technological sophistication, luxury, and competitive pricing. However, the question remains: can this model truly disrupt the dominance of iconic brands like Rolls-Royce and Maybach in the Chinese market?
