Hyundai is set to soon unveil its largest EV in the Ioniq lineup, the Ioniq 9, aimed at meeting the growing demand for three-row electric SUVs. While some details are still under wraps, the Ioniq 9 promises a bold design and advanced technology that could appeal to family drivers as well as automotive enthusiasts. The model’s official debut is scheduled for November.

The first look at the Ioniq 9 revealed a prominent front LED panel with distinctive pixel elements, a design signature carried over from the smaller Ioniq 5 and 6 models. This feature creates a modern lighting profile, while the vehicle’s side profile—with hefty C-pillars and squared wheel arches—recalls the 2021 Seven concept. Though the concept impressed with bold features like rear-hinged “suicide doors,” it’s unlikely that all of these elements will make it to the production model.

The Ioniq 9’s design draws from Korean culture, specifically the traditional hanbok attire, and Hyundai claims it also takes inspiration from the sleek, open style of luxury yachts. This approach is reflected in the aerodynamic shape of the body and the open, spacious interior, which aims to provide a comfortable, roomy experience for all passengers.

The interior emphasizes modern tech, featuring a dual-screen setup serving as both dashboard and infotainment, angled toward the driver. Physical climate controls remain intact, while the gear selector is integrated as a stalk behind the steering wheel—a solution Hyundai employs in some of its other models as well.

On the technical side, the Ioniq 9 is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the same foundation used by the Kia EV9. If Hyundai carries over similar specifications, we can expect a version with a high-capacity 99.8 kWh battery and all-wheel-drive capability powered by dual motors delivering 283 kW (384 hp). A more affordable variant may feature a single motor with 150 kW (204 hp), offering a range of up to 563 kilometers.

Hyundai plans to gradually release additional details about the Ioniq 9 in the coming weeks. The full reveal is expected in November, providing a closer look at the features and exact specifications of this newest addition to Hyundai’s electric vehicle family.
